H2S Hydrogen Sulfide Gas Characteristics

H2S, hydrogen sulfide, is a colorless, toxic, flammable gas with a pungent odor. Under normal temperature and pressure, H2S is in gaseous state and has a smell similar to rotten eggs. The ignition point of H2S is -82.4°C and the boiling point is -60.3°C. H2S is easily soluble in water and can form hydrogen sulfide solution, and can be neutralized by acidic substances to generate sulfur and water.

TLV and Poisoning Reaction of H2S Gas:

The TLV for hydrogen sulfide is 10ppm, but this does not mean that H2S concentrations below 10ppm are safe. Low concentrations of H2S may cause eye and respiratory irritation, while high concentrations may cause dizziness, nausea, shortness of breath, fatigue, coma and death. Poisoning symptoms are related to factors such as exposure time, concentration, health status, age, gender and personal sensitivity.
